I’ll keep this brief! Largely because it’s not a big deal, I just wanted to provide a small update before April ends, and also because I have other stuff to work on tonight.
So, the aforementioned “yummy” thing I had in store for this month’s poem, “Show Pony” was to record myself pole dancing to a reading of the poem! I had a fun glittery butterfly top, a blueprint of a dramatic, floorwork-heavy choreography, and the perfect songs (the entirety of Paradise by Lana Del Rey) to set the atmosphere.
I couldn’t not produce something great!
Well, my iPhone 14 Pro Space Black had other plans. Basically, I did not have enough actual phone storage — not Cloud storage — to record what would have been a 5-7 minute long routine. This has been an ongoing issue and, more than anything, this spurs me on to actually work on replacing my phone. Something that I’ve put off for a while. Even now, it’s still not really at the top of my to-do list 🤷♀️. Guys, there’s just so much on the horizon!
All good things, I promise :). Grad school (😭👩🎓😁) and a new tattoo (💉), among other things, like my wisdom teeth growing in (🦷💥😖). That last example is less good, but I suppose I had it coming.
That being said, I plan on redoing this project with an actual, proper, and immersive recording of me reading “Show Pony” and a full, good-quality video of me performing to it. Whether that means upgrading my phone, or borrowing a friend’s video camera, or a friend to record me (only if they’d like to), I will find a way to create that and publish it proper.
This surrender to the subtle entropies of daily life sort of made me realize that, try as I might, I really can’t control everything! That is as frustrating as it is freeing, but I’m trying to focus more on the freeing aspect. For all I write about taking each day, each moment as it comes, I’m still learning to loosen the reins. And each time I relearn this lesson, it always comes with a slap in the face.
This is all very aptly timed with the full moon in Scorpio tomorrow, these moments of release and capitulation. I plan to focus as much as I can on my art, with full attention and resources, amidst all this change, this excitement, and movement.
I am gonna attach the pole recording from Monday just so you all could see that I’ve started a lil somethin’ for it. You can see the thought on my face as I transition through each move.
I should be ready with May’s poem on our usual rendezvous date (the 14th, if you weren’t keeping score), so look forward to that 🙂.
With so much love (and only some apologies),
Maia <3
